Instrumental music that bridges between Rock and Jazz with clarity, depth and emotion.
NEW RIVAL is indie studio recording artist Kenneth Cookson. Kenneth composes, performs and produces original Rock/Jazz fusion instrumental music from his home based studio on east Vancouver Island in British Columbia Canada.
As a multi instrumentalist (guitar and keyboards), Kenneth’s musical influences from the likes of Pat Methenay, Andy Summers, David Evans and Jeff Beck helped ferment the particular guitar sounds that exude from each track.
“When I approach is to experiment with a kind of “controlled improvisation” that builds on standard chord progressions to create songs that have solid rhythm and beat that you can dance to. It has to have “soul” with a mixture of clarity, depth and emotion.”
Driving piano/keyboards, orchestral support and studio backup singers get inspiration from late 70’s-80’s soul, such as on the track Stroke of Luck and the pop sounding So You Think So. Distortion guitar accents inflict a sharper Rock/Jazz sound such as on the track Hey You and the funk track I Get You You Get Me.
These “jump up” and dance inspired songs come from genres such as: electronic, funk, soul and alternative rock.
“As an emerging artist, my dedication to composing and recording is a full time affair, and one that is extremely rewarding. I continually look for inspiration from all genre’s in my drive to bring New Rival music to a wider audience. My latest music can be sourced online at www.newrival.live.”
